George Darcy

I am inspired by the scenes and flora and fauna of the natural world, particularly in coastal New England. My training in botany and marine biology influences my attention to detail, such as in my floral and beach still-life's. My love of a good story, however, helps broaden my focus to capture character and sense of place in my landscapes and scenes from my many travels.
My work primarily in oils and watercolors, but also in acrylics, gouache, and pastels. I have had the good fortune to be able to study and take workshops with a variety of excellent artists, including William Duke, Susan Spellman, Sue Charles, Alan Bull, Donald Jurney, Ron Brun, Ann Schaefer, Walt Bartman, Todd Bonita, and Robert Henry and other faculty at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. I am a Juried Artist member of the North Shore Arts Association, an Artist member of the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), and a member of the Watercolor Interest Group at the NAA. I am also a member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. I have displayed my work in both juried and non-juried shows, as well as in several galleries.
My goal is to continue to learn and grow as an artist, and to explore new styles and techniques.
I accept commissions for pet portraits and other subjects.
