Liz Lovell

Growing up in Ohio and summering in New England,  I traveled with my family near and far exploring national parks, bodies of water, and historical settlements.   My mother taught me needlework, knitting, and gardening which led me to photography, floral arranging, and botanicals.  As an adult, I moved to the Boston area where I settled and raised my family.

Upon retirement, I immersed myself in the pottery studio learning to throw and hand-build with clay. For me it was a natural extension of my love of plants and gardening.  Flowers are a particular love of mine - my grandparents were florists - and I have spent years looking deeply into their structure and coloration.  It was therefore natural to complement my pottery pieces with floral touches. Over time I have found that the tactile experience of shaping and carving clay and realizing unexpected glaze combinations to be a continual source of wonder and excitement.

Collaboration with my longtime friend George Marinakis is a relatively new venture, and we enjoy exploring the whimsical combination of George’s artful driftwood creations and my clay botanicals. Each piece we make is unique, sourced from the natural world and embedded with the joy of artistic creation.

Liz resides in Topsfield, MA
